Israel threatens to leave World Press Federation

The Jerusalem Post reported last night that Israel is threatening to leave the World Press Federation (according to Little Green Footballs, the organization's name is the International Federation of Journalists) over comments it made regarding IDF attacks on Hezbullah's al-Manar telvision station.

Hat Tip: Little Green Footballs

Israel will leave the World Press Federation if the organization does not retract its comment regarding the IDF's attacks on a television station belonging to the Hizbullah Al-Manar TV, Army Radio reported Sunday.

The Federation stated that Israel's attacks were against the principle of the freedom of the press.

The attacks on Al-Manar proves Israel's policy of the use of force as a means of quieting press organizations with which Israel does not agree, said Aidan White, Secretary-General of the Federation.

An official letter written to the Federation by Israeli reporters states that the condemnation of Israel's actions represents overt support for terrorism.
