Lebanese cabinet delays vital meeting

With the hudna due to go into effect in about seven hours, the Lebanese cabinet has delayed indefinitely a meeting that was to discuss its implementation, casting doubt on whether it will actually go into effect in a timely manner.

The meeting will certainly delay the beginning of deployment of the Lebanese army in south Lebanon.

A top aide to Prime Minister Fouad Siniora would give no reason why the meeting had been delayed, but the Jerusalem Post is reporting that published reports indicated that the Cabinet, which approved the cease-fire unanimously Saturday night, had been sharply divided over demands in the cease-fire agreement that Hizbullah surrender its weapons in south Lebanon.

Lebanon's cabinet was to meet at 5:00 PM Sunday - some eight hours ago - to accept the UN plan.
