Summing up Operation Cast Lead

Noah Pollak has done a good job of summarizing the conclusions from Operation Cast Lead (Hat Tip: Powerline). I have one small bone to pick with Noah and that's this conclusion:
8. Throughout the war, Hamas demanded that Israel lift its blockade of Gaza. The war is over, and Israel isn’t lifting the blockade. Hamas hoped to use the war to generate international pressure on Israel to alleviate the blockade, but instead such pressure (at least so far) is coalescing around the need to prevent Hamas from benefiting from the reconstruction phase.
I hope that conclusion is correct, but I fear that it's not. Look for George Mitchell to press Israel very hard on this issue when he arrives here on Wednesday. Outside of the US, the rest of the world is very definitely a lot more interested in getting the 'blockade' lifted than in preventing Hamas from benefiting from reconstruction.

And don't bet on Hamas not benefiting from the reconstruction either.

If the world can't see the Jews disappear for good, it can make their lives miserable. That is the intent behind pressuring Israel to lift the blockade on Gaza. In other words, it may not care for Hamas' Islamist dreams but it shares its antipathy towards the Jews. Israel should have taken the opportunity to wipe out Hamas.
