Yet another Holocaust-denying priest

You will recall an interview with Bishop Richard Williamson that was telecast shortly after he was reprieved by Pope Benedict XVI. Last week, a second priest from the 'traditionalist' Society of Saint Pius X has denied the Holocaust.
In the wake of a global furor triggered by Pope Benedict XVI’s decision to lift the excommunication of four traditionalist Catholic bishops, including one who cast doubt on the Holocaust, another leader in the traditionalist Society of St. Pius X has questioned whether the Nazis used gas chambers for anything other than “disinfection,” and said that people who hold revisionist views on the Holocaust are not anti-Semites.

Fr. Floriano Abrahamowicz [pictured. CiJ], a pastor and spokesperson for the Society of St. Pius X in northeastern Italy, also referred to Jews as “a people of deicide,” referring to the death of Christ, and suggested that the Jewish Holocaust has been “exalted” over what he called “other genocides,” such as the Allied bombing of German cities and the Israeli occupation of the Gaza strip.

On the other hand, Abrahamowicz insisted that the traditionalist movement founded by the late French Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre is not “anti-Semitic.” Among other things, Abrahamowicz said, he himself has Jewish roots on his father’s side.

The comments came in a Jan. 29 interview with the Italian newspaper La Tribuna di Treviso.
Abrahamowicz apparently has a history of this sort of thing.
Abrahamowicz is himself a well-known figure in Italy. In 2006, he gave a television interview in which he said that Erich Priebke, a German SS officer convicted of war crimes for a 1944 massacre in Rome, in which 335 Italian civilians were killed in reprisal for the deaths of 33 German soldiers, should not be seen as an “executioner” but rather a soldier who acted “with regret and a heavy heart.” In 2007, Abrahamowicz celebrated a Latin Mass for Italian politician Umberto Bossi, leader of the far-right Northern League party. Bossi and his party have sometimes been accused of xenophobia, particularly towards Muslim immigrants.
An English translation of the full interview with Abrahamowicz may be found here. Read the comments below the interview as well. If you're Jewish, many of the comments will not make you feel all warm and fuzzy.

I meant to post this a few days ago when it was first reported on Israel Radio, but I could not find it online - probably because I was spelling the last name wrong and thought Abrahamowicz was one of the four priests who was reprieved by the Pope. He's apparently not one of them, just an independent anti-Semite.

Yep. The damage has been done in that the Vatican's actions have spoken louder than its words to the Jews.

How many Catholic priests do you think there are? What percent do you think are holocost deniers? What percent of Catholics in general are deniers? How different is this from any other demographic group. Is it greater or smaller?

I have a saying (maybe I ilfted it from someone else)that is all-to-often accurately invoked. It goes, "If you look for something hard enough, eventually you'll find it."

I'd be willing to bet that Catholics in America are better friends of Israel than Jews in America.

However, if it makes you feel righteous, keep looking.

It was four BISHOPS who had their excommunications lifted, not four priests.

Bishops are sort of like Super Priests, you could say. They are the rulers and teachers of the Church.

This guys is just a priest in the same organization as Williamson, the SSPX.

Bishop Richard Williamson is not a priest but an anti-lectual prostitute.

Al,

I am sure there are many Catholics in America who are pro-Israel and as a percentage they may even be more pro-Israel than non-practicing Jews.

But what goes on in Rome is in no way related to whether Catholics in the US support Israel. Europe is a different world. I cannot begin to describe to you the anger that the remarks about Gaza being a 'concentration camp' elicited here. The official Rabbinate here cut its ties with the Vatican in response. And Williamson coming on the heels of that incident only makes matters worse.
