Who said this?

I was kind of surprised to find this quote. Let's see how many of you can guess who said it and when. I'll post the answer (and a picture of the person who said it) in the morning:
They have made the desert bloom... started a score of thriving industries... founded a great city on a barren shore... harnessed the Jordan and spread its electricity throughout the land... So far from being persecuted, the Arabs have crowded into the country and multiplied till their population has increased more than even all world Jewry could lift up the Jewish population. Now we are asked to decree that this all stop and all this is to come to an end. We are now asked to submit - and this is what rankles most with me - to an agitation which is fed with foreign money and ceaselessly inflamed by Nazi and Fascist propaganda."
I won't make my comment now, because it might give away the answer.

UPDATE 7:50 AM

I will post the answer to this later this morning. I'm not publishing the comments yet because two people in the comments have already gotten the correct answer and one even knew the year it was said.

UPDATE 10:14 AM

Four commenters got it right. It was Winston Churchill who said it. And one person got the year right too - it was 1939. I was kind of surprised when I saw this quote, because it was Churchill who wrote the White Paper that cut 79% of the original British Mandate apart from 'Palestine' and gave it to the Hashemite family of Jordan.

One commenter asked me to post the 'full quote.' The versions I found online all cut it that way.

Churchill said it during the 1939 debate on the White Paper (also known as the MacDonald White Paper), which condemned millions of Jews to death in the Concentration Camps by restricting Jewish immigration to 'Palestine.'

The words are just as true 80 years later.

No wonder Obama returned his bust to Britain.

More on Churchill as a Zionist here.

I thought it was Churchill. Had the British government listened to him much earlier, the bloodiest war in human history might have been averted. The capacity of human beings to delude themselves knows no limits. Are we going to make the same mistake with Iran? I don't think Churchill would approve of the American outreach to Iran today, which is likely to have the same results as the British attempts to appease Germany.

We don't need to know that it would be disastrous for the entire world.

Churchill would never make it to power in today's politically correct and obsessively Arabist/Islamist Britain. He would be ridiculed, ostracized, threatened, and very likely prosecuted for "hate crimes". Remember, he also said this:

How dreadful are the curses which Mohammedanism lays on its votaries! Besides the fanatical frenzy, which is as dangerous in a man as hydrophobia in a dog, there is this fearful fatalistic apathy. The effects are apparent in many countries. Improvident habits, slovenly systems of agriculture, sluggish methods of commerce, and insecurity of property exist wherever the followers of the Prophet rule or live. A degraded sensualism deprives this life of its grace and refinement; the next of its dignity and sanctity. The fact that in Mohammedan law every woman must belong to some man as his absolute property either as a child, a wife, or a concubine must delay the final extinction of slavery until the faith of Islam has ceased to be a great power among men. Individual Moslems may show splendid qualities. Thousands become the brave and loyal soldiers of the Queen; all know how to die; but the influence of the religion paralyses the social development of those who follow it. No stronger retrograde force exists in the world. Far from being moribund, Mohammedanism is a militant and proselytizing faith. It has already spread throughout Central Africa, raising fearless warriors at every step; and were it not that Christianity is sheltered in the strong arms of science, the science against which it had vainly struggled, the civilisation of modern Europe might fall, as fell the civilisation of ancient Rome.

About giving Jordan to the hashemites you should read (if you did not until now) David Fromkin's book about the middle east.

Dylan has lyrics in the same vein. Churchill + Dylan.
