Report: More 'gestures'?

A report indicates that when Prime Minister Netanyahu meets with US Special Middle East envoy George Mitchell, Netanyahu will be making some more 'gestures' to the 'Palestinians.'
Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu will meet with U.S. mideast envoy George Mitchell on Thursday. Netanyahu is expected to offer a series of Israeli “gestures,” further concessions, to the Palestinian Authority. Among the concessions expected to be offered will be surrendering more cities to PA civilian and security control, releasing of terrorists, removal of checkpoints, and a permit for the paving of a road between Ramallah and a new PA city being built.
Can someone please explain just why we are offering more 'gestures' at this time? We agreed to enter into 'proximity talks,' for which we paid a price we had no business paying. Why are we now making more 'gestures'? Is Israel expected to make 'gestures' after each meeting to induce the 'Palestinians' to come back for the next one? What could go wrong?
