Syria ambivalent on Ford appointment

I'm sure you'll all be shocked to hear that the Syrians don't seem very excited about the prospect of the first US Ambassador to Syria since 2005.
In response to the appointment of Robert Ford as the U.S. ambassador to Syria, which ended a five year hiatus, Syria's ambassador to Lebanon, 'Ali 'Abd Al-Karim, said that the appointment had come very late, and expressed hope for a change in the U.S. policy in the region.

The Syrian government press reported on the nomination only briefly, citing a French news agency.
