Headed in the wrong direction

If you can tell a country by the company it keeps, Egypt is a country heading in the wrong direction.

On Tuesday, the Egyptians welcomed Omar al-Bashir for a visit. Yes, that would be Omar al-Bashir of Sudan, who is a fugitive from the International Criminal Court for the attempted genocide of his people.
Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir arrived in Cairo on Tuesday for an official visit during which he will meet with Marshal Hussein Tantawi, head of the ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces.

Al-Bashir will also meet with a number of senior Egyptian officials during his visit, the first to be made by an Arab leader since the ouster of former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.

“Al-Bashir’s visit to Cairo reveals a Sudanese supportive stance for the Egyptian people during such a historical situation,” said Sudanese Ambassador to Egypt Abdul Rahman Siral-Khatim.

Al-Bashir had earlier praised the revolution which toppled Mubarak’s regime.
Unfortunately, I look for Egypt to be hanging around more and more with the likes of Bashir for the foreseeable future.

What could go wrong?
