Israel takes responsibility for killing Arafat deputy... in 1988

Israel has taken responsibility for the killing of one of Yasser Arafat's deputies in 1988.
Israel has taken responsibility for the assassination of Khalil al-Wazir, deputy of former PLO leader Yasser Arafat, in 1988, Yediot Aharonot reported on Thursday.

Wazir, who is better known as "Abu Jihad", was killed in a raid in Tunis by the Mossad and Sayeret Matkal, the IDF's most elite and classified unit.

According to Yediot, the operation's commander was Nachom Lev, who shot Wazir with a silenced handgun.

Wazir founded the PLO with Arafat and was responsible for a series of attacks against Israeli civilians.
