Turnout at 55.5% as of 6:00 pm, could top 70%

As of 6:00 pm, 55.5% of Israelis had gone to the polls, as compared with 50.3% at the same time in the 2009 elections.
As a result of the high voter turnout, the amount of voters needed to pass the threshold has risen to 80,000 voters, Channel 2 reported.
The Elections Commission says turnout could yet exceed 70%.
Central Elections Committee statistician Avraham Diskin said Tuesday that if the current rate of voting continues, turnout could top 70 percent, Channel 10 reported.

He cautioned, however, that "we have seen in the past that the trend can change at 8:00 p.m.

By 6:00 p.m., 55.5% of elegible voters had cast ballots in the election.
As I have noted several times today, high turnout is viewed as helping the Left.
